BEAT THE CHALLENGES OF HYPERTENSION DURING PREGNANCY

Preeclampsia

  • Unusual swelling of hands and face
  • The patients can see spots or changes in vision.
  • Upper abdominal pain.
  • Intermittent Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting in later stages of pregnancy.
  • Difficulty in breathing.

HELLP syndrome

Usually an acronym for hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count. The symptoms associated are

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Upper abdominal pain

This condition can turn out to be life-threatening and can also be a complication of pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia can be diagnosed if the mother after the 20th week of pregnancy has high blood pressure and protein in her urine. HELLP syndrome can at times even turn out to be very critical and the doctor can call for premature delivery.

Thus in every stage of pregnancy if high blood pressure is confronted, or any symptoms arise then the best Gynae should be consulted immediately. Measures to control high BP

  • Carry out suggested exercises, yoga, walking, etc. This helps the body to maintain normal blood pressure levels.
